Case Study: Promoting Data Entry Products

Length of Case Study: 10 Days

The purpose of this case study is to illustrate that a campaign promoting ClickBank products can be set up in a matter of hours, and become profitable within 10 days after commencement. We chose to do this case study on Data Entry related products, as it was one of our most recent keyword lists released, and the product with the highest gravity on ClickBank is a Data Entry product. We wanted to illustrate how our keyword lists, and recommended products can help you make money with very little effort.

The keywords in our Data Entry Keyword list were derived from the keywords that we have used in this case study, and the products that we recommended are the same products that we used for the case study as well.

Below is a full outline of our tasks over the 10 day case study. Data, expenditures, changes and conversions are included

Day 1

Day 1 - Set Up Site and Adgroups

Step 1:
The first things we do when setting up a campaign for a particular industry, is find well paying affiliate products to promote. The data entry products that we recommended with the keyword list are the same products from our case study. One addition that we made to the list was Beating Adwords. Why? Beating Adwords is a similar product to the Data Entry products in that it relates to Adwords, the only difference being that it gives and in depth view into how to effectively use Google Adwords and outlines strategies on how to become a successful Internet Marketer. The data entry products are geared more towards ad creation within Google. Beating Adwords will not be included in the main review, but will be included as a recommended product for those seeking an Internet Marketing guide.

Here is a list of the products that we decided to promote:

Step 2:
Now that we have decided on which products we are going to promote, we will need to create a landing page that will effectively review these products and at the same time generate high conversions. Although traffic quality is very important to a campaign, if a landing page is not well written and designed, there is a potential for a lot of wasted adspend. We created this site in just under 1 hour (just one of us), including all text, linking, graphics, and product information. We used Photoshop to develop our banner, Dreamweaver to create the tables, input the text, and FTP the files, and SnagIt to take the screenshots.

Although the site won’t win any awards for the ”nicest webpage in the world”, it is well layed out and should see some decent sales. We included Beating Adwords below the main reviews as a “Internet Marketing Product”. We don’t want to promote it #1 as we are going to send the traffic from “data entry” keywords, so we want our visitors to see “data entry” products upon entering our site.

Step 3:
Our next goal is to set up an initial campaign that is going to get decent traffic, but at the same time be highly targeted towards the products that we are promoting. To make this case study as simple as possible we set up 5 adgroups.

The campaign is now complete and we are ready to go. Everything was completed in just over 2 hours. Obviously not everyone will be as proficient at web development or campaign management as us, but it should take no longer than a day if you are new to this. Hopefully we will see a couple of sales roll in tomorrow with our efforts


Day 2
Commissions: $91.46 Adspend: $20.61 Profit: $70.85 ROI: 444%

Tasks:
Off to a great start today, we woke up to a Data Entry sale this morning on only $7 adspend. Was this luck? Well, it might have been until we obtained another conversion later on in the afternoon for a total of $91.46 (both Data Entry Pro) on 72 clicks. The only time we spent with the campaign today was reviewing the adspend to make sure it was not costing too much.

Things to Watch For:
Typically when you see that you have made conversions with a campaign, you begin to build upon it. In the case of this campaign, we are only going to refine the existing ad groups to try to obtain maximum ROI. Hopefully tomorrow will be another profitable day.

Day 3
Commissions: $0 Adspend: $21.84 Profit: $0 ROI: 0%

Tasks:
No sales today. Is it time to take a baseball bat to the computer and quit Internet Marketing? No, this happens to the best of us and we can only expect a few no sale days (especially with a smaller adspend). Not too worry though, we still have a positive ROI and we only spent $21.84 today in advertising costs.

Things to Watch For:
Today our CTR dropped from 7% to 5.8%, so we are going to keep an eye and make sure this does drop too much further. 5.8% is still a good CTR at a campaign level, so we are not going to worry too much yet. If we have another no-sale day like today, we will take a seriously look into why our campaign isn’t converting and most likely make some modifications.

Day 4
Commissions: $45.73 Adspend: $20.96 Profit: $24.77 ROI: 218%

Tasks:
Had another sale today and spent $20.96 in advertising to make $45.73. Took a look at the campaign at the ad group level today and the keyword “data entry job” was by far the most expensive. Is this keyword performing? Not sure, but since the CTR is quite good 13.5%, we may be able to lower the CPC if it begins to cost too much. We also adjusted the ad within the data entry job and Data Entry campaigns (lowest performing) to contain the word “scam” in the title. People’s eyes are drawn to the keyword and it often times results in much better CTR.

Note: CTR fluctuates as your positioning fluctuates. The CTR drop may have been a result of this and not our ad copy. Something to look out for.

Things to Watch For:
See if our changes to the 2 poorest ad group’s ads will improve our overall CTR.

Tasks:
Although we made another 2 sales today, our advertising costs went up drastically. Adspend today almost double over yesterday, and we noticed that our CTR improved by 2 whole percentage points. The ad change must have made an impact.

At least we were profitable today, but we should focus on either lowering our CPC or generating change the website to convert better. We decided to lower the highest cost campaigns, data entry job & Data Entry, by $0.10. This will most likely reduce our adspend, and since our CTR is good, we probably won’t lose a whole lot of ad positioning, if any.

Things to Watch For:
Check tomorrow to see if our adspend went down as a result of lowering “data entry job” and “Data Entry” campaign’s CPC.

Tasks:
0 sales equal 0 dollars. That’s exactly what we had today. We ended up spending $30.64 in advertising, which is a little less than yesterday. Our overall profit thus far is $98.97, which equates to just under $16.50/day. Not quite enough to quit your day job, but it’s a start.

Things to Watch For:
Sales…let’s try to get some sales tomorrow.

Tasks:
As Cramer from Mad Money would say – “Boo Ya”! We brought in four sales today totalling $182.92 in revenue. One of these sales was a Beating Adwords sale. This is a great day. Our advertising costs took another significant jump today ($47.81). This is OK as our revenue increased drastically. We are going to leave everything as is for today and hope for a day similar to this tomorrow.

Things to Watch For:
Keep an eye on the Data Entry ad group is costing a lot.

We went from good to bad overnight. No sales today with an adspend of $38.89. We just incurred our largest loss. This is OK though. We had a great day yesterday, so not too worry. One thing we are going to change is the Data Entry adgroup. It has cost us over $18/day over the previous two days so we are going to lower the CPC to $0.31. This should reduce the daily advertising costs.

See if the modifications to the Data Entry ad group lower the adspend.

We turned things around today from yesterday. Not only did we lower our adspend, we generated 2 sales for a total profit of $73.90. This tells us that the Data Entry ad group may not have been the highest performing one, and that it was a good decision to lower the CPC. Today was the lowest costing day in regards to advertising and we still managed to make 2 sales.

Things to Watch For:
Our CTR was very low today (2.7%), so we will keep an eye on this.

Tasks:
Today is our final day, and although we only made 1 more sale, it has been a profitable 10 days. Realistically, we could have added additional ad groups along the way, but having only 5 ad groups allowed us to dissect the data and interpret why we were obtain these results. Today, the CTR went up to 3.9% overall, with an adspend of $27.94.

Things to Watch For:
We will leave this campaign as is for the next couple of days to see how it performs.
